DOD Sigonella Field Day

When we first arrived at Sigonella we asked our families what we could do that would be most helpful to support the families at Sigonella.  Overwhelmingly they ask for volunteering at the school to help their children.  They are such great parents and their concerns are about their children and the military lifestyle they live.  We have had a few opportunities to volunteer at school since then.

Every school in America has a "Field Day" at the end of the year and DOD Sigonella was not an exception.  It was a cool rainy day, the student-body was divided in half, grades 3-5 in the morning and K-2  in the afternoon.  Sigonella is a young base, lots of elementary students, there are 4 or 5 classes of 25 in each grade level, fewer middle school students and very small classes in the high school; the junior class is 35, the senior class will graduate 30 students this June! We were assigned to be the "Bubble Crew!" It was great fun to see the kids on our branch at school along with all their friends compete in the annual field day activities.  We DO have a tough job!!
