Explore More Traditional Chinese Physical Culture

South China University of Technology hosted the Foreign Teachers in the second of a series of three Chinese culture events designed to support better understanding of Chines Culture.  The first was the Folk Music Festival we attended in December the second was today at the Multifunctional Hall East Gymnasium.  We were escorted this event “Explore More Traditional Chinese Physical Culture” by student volunteers with directions to wear comfortable clothes so we could participate in the cultural activity.

The Physical Education Department had prepared student demonstrations in Tai Chi, Sunda and Chinese kickboxing. The students were well prepared in their art and an English translator was provided to help us understand the demonstrations.  The last half of this Cultural experience was designed to implement.  We had a great opportunity to learn from the experts.  We tried Tai Chi without much difficulty and it was very relaxing, however we did use muscles that I haven’t for a while.  As we were walking home I could feel new muscle stretches, hope tomorrow is a pleasant day. We had one on one instruction to use the fan as a weapon.  I couldn’t help but think about the weapons code for most school districts in the US.  I haven’t ever seen fans listed as weapons, however after today I am sure they qualify as a weapon with the right training.
